Take a Soo Locks Boat Tour and see one of the Great Wonders of the World
45 minutes north of the Mackinac Bridge is the Soo Locks the Largest Waterway Traffic System on Earth. You will find it in Michigan’s Oldest City Sault Ste. Marie, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The first time I went through the Locks was when I was 14. I never in my young life thought I would ever see something so extraordinary. Said to be a Great wonder of the World. The Tour is a 2 hour long live narrated tour through the locks. You enter the locks on Lake Huron and are raised 21 feet to Lake Superior right along side of the big freighters. (Talk about feeling small).
The tour continues along the lake and under the International Bridge and railroad bridge into Canada. The return trip is just as exciting. Entering the Historic “Newly Restored” Canadian lock on Lake Superior you are lowered 21 feet to Lake Huron
Rain or shine, the Boat Tour runs 7 days a week from May 12th thru October 15th. Preseason departures start May 1st. (Call for times.) The Soo Locks’ Boats are climate controlled with restrooms and a snack bar. There is free parking and pet kennels available. While waiting to depart visit the snack bar and souvenir shops located on the docks. Or take in some of the best waterfront viewing of the St. Mary’s River. Other than my three girls this has to be one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Tour Rates Adults -19.00 / Children (4-12) - 9.00 / 3 and under are free.
